Driving a car comes with specific responsibilities, especially when that person has passengers with them. If the driver is not paying attention to their surroundings or is under the influence of some type of substance, they can cause a car accident. Collisions often result in serious injury to victims which can prevent them from working and place them into unexpected financial challenges. These challenges include medical expenses, the inability to pay one’s bills, and other costs associated with the accident.
A 62-year-old man from Salisbury was injured in an alleged drunk driving accident on New Year’s Eve. The man was riding in a car with a female passenger and her boyfriend, who was behind the wheel at the time. The driver was crossing a bridge in the opposing lane of traffic when the car collided with another vehicle. In addition to the injuries the man received, the female passenger was killed and the driver was seriously injured; none of the car’s occupants were wearing seatbelts.
Now the driver is facing a number of charges in relation to the accident he caused, including manslaughter, drunk driving and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. It is unknown how serious the older victims’ injuries were.
When an accident investigation reveals that the driver was responsible, injured victims and their families have the option to pursue that driver for financial justice. Seeking compensation can enable victims to financially recover from their ordeal and even provide funds for further medical care, depending on the seriousness of the collision. If you have been injured in a car accident, you may find it beneficial to speak with an experienced attorney about your rights.
